Create a quiz

Zense AI can build a complete, HKDSE-aligned quiz from a topic — then you refine
it in a powerful builder with Zack, the quiz AI assistant.

The quiz builder supports everything from quick formative checks to full exam-style papers with multiple parts and question types.

Generate a quiz

AI generation is the fastest way to get a first draft — you can always edit every question afterwards.

1. Go to Assignments → New assignment → Quiz.
2. Set the basics: title, grade level, and topic (e.g. "Foundations
   of 9th-grade physics"). Optionally add standards (HKDSE, AP, Common Core),
   an answer key / guidance note, and attach reference materials.
3. Adjust the question mix (auto-graded vs AI-graded types).
4. Click Generate — or Start from empty to build it yourself.

Attempts, time limits, due dates, and review mode are configured later in the
builder Setup tab and the Publish wizard — not on this create form.

Builder workspace

After create, the quiz opens in the builder:

• Setup — title, standards, attempts, deadlines, and other settings.
• Knowledge — materials from create upload here; add or link more sources
  before or while generating.
• Parts — the paper structure (left / center).
• Zack — the AI assistant (right panel: Edit Quiz with Zack).

When you generate from create, materials land in the knowledge base and Zack
starts drafting. Questions appear live in the paper as they stream; the first
generate often auto-applies them. Your request shows as a structured
Generate quiz form card (grade, topic, mix, sources) — not a raw prompt wall.

Edit in the builder

The builder gives you fine-grained control over every part of the paper, from section structure to individual rubrics.

• Parts — split the paper into sections; group parts so students pick one
  of several (choice groups).
• Questions — see types below.
• Rubrics — set answer keys, exemplars, and AI grading criteria (AI-graded
  types need clear criteria bullets per tier).
• Reading material — attach a passage to a part.

Question types

Auto-graded (examples): single / multiple choice, true / false / NG,
matching, fill-in-the-blank (exact or AI mode), ordering, numeric, cloze with
dropdowns, table fill, Diagram labelling.

AI-graded (examples): short / long answer, audio response, Whiteboard /
draw.

Diagram labelling

Add a diagram image, or use Generate with AI / Add labels. The builder
reads numbered markers into slots and answer keys — skim-check before publish.

Whiteboard / draw

Students answer on a drawing canvas. Set guidelines and a rubric; AI grades the
exported drawing image.

Edit with Zack

Open the Zack panel (Edit Quiz with Zack) to draft, rephrase, and
reorganise the quiz. Try prompts like:

• "Add 3 MCQs about photosynthesis to Part A."
• "Rephrase the focused question for a younger audience."
• "Draft a rubric for the focused short-answer question."

Zack proposes changes; you Implement or Discard each one (later edits).

Advanced options

Advanced settings control shuffle behavior, point visibility, and when students see correct answers.

Shuffle questions or answer options, hide points during the attempt, allow late
submission, and choose when correct answers are shown (never, after submit, after
due date, or after feedback is released).

Publish & preview

Always preview as a student before publishing to catch formatting or wording issues.

• Use the paper strip Preview (student paper vs answer key) and download
  Word or PDF.
• Preview as student opens a real preview attempt that is not counted
  for your class.
• Click Publish to open the Publish quiz wizard:
  1. Submission — attempts, time limits, due date.
  2. Attempt — how the paper looks while students work.
  3. Grading — review mode and when scores release.
• Every part needs at least one question. Then invite students with a share
  code or by adding them — unless the assignment is Managed by classroom
  (roster follows the classroom; share-code self-join is blocked).
